After a wonderful few days in Christchurch, the Bakers hit the road, headed for Omarama, just south of Mt. Cook, Australasia's largest peak...

Once we crossed the Cantebury region of fields and sheep, we hit the beautiful Southern Alps, and the incredible Lake Tekapo. It was an amazing crystal blue color, the result of a sediment left behind by retreating glaciers millions of years ago.

At Lake Tekapo was the Church of the Good Shepherd, perched on a hill overlooking the beautiful water and mountains...truly a peaceful place.

A nice view from the Altar of the Church, framing the lake behind it.

Finn and Mommy outside the Church - it was a breathtaking view!

Cool winds and crisp Spring air sure felt good after a few hours in the car!

This famous statue salutes the Sheep Dogs of the region - it being a statue of a proud Border Collie, we couldn't help but think of old Barley, looking out over the lake!

Further down the road was Mt. Cook - a truly stunning peak seen from miles around. It also sat on a beautiful blue lake...

After what would be our longest day on the road, we finally made it to Omarama, and the Streamdance Homestay, prime fly fishing territory. A peaceful little town on the Alhurri River. Here, our host Denise shows Erin the lay of the land...

Finn shows off his awesome new accessory, the Kiwi Hat! You'll see a lot of it in future posts, it became quite the emblem of our trip!

This was just the beginning of great scenery and snowy mountains! Next stop - Queenstown...
Love,
A&E
