The Bakertown Flood...

Hi all Bakertown observers...a flood in our apartment led to a destroyed laptop and 3 refugeed Bakers in a tiny substitute place in our building. Our A/C unit (in the ceiling) exploded and dumped water everywhere. We'll post as soon as we get a new laptop...all's well though, the flood didn't "dampen" our spirits!
Only 8 weeks left in HK...

Finn's first haircut!

Well, we could wait no longer...Finn's hair needed a trim. Luckily, there's a barber in our building!
He sat very patiently (with a little help from Elmo on video)...
And when it was over, he was even sharper than ever!
"Dad, does this mean that even more people will want to take pictures with me!?"
"I'm a lean, mean, shark pajama machine!"
Finn decides to make a few phone calls to celebrate his new 'look!'

10 Thousand Buddhas and the Pink Dolphins!

Finn prepares himself for a very fun and busy weekend - Daddy was home from Mumbai, and it was time to get crackin'!
First stop was to the Temple of Ten Thousand Buddhas, a Monastery in Northern Kowloon, Hong Kong. The base of the Temple had a large Buddhist cemetery and immaculate grounds.
We began our trek to the top of the peak, infamous for its 600 stairs and steep grade. Luckily, there was a ramp next to the stairs to push up our little Buddha in his stroller!
The entire path up was filled with life-sized golden Buddhas...hence the name of the Temple!
They each were different and interesting to see, but this might have been one of our favorites...
A large tower at the top where the Monastery was...ornate and filled with Buddhas!
Beautiful ornate golden statues everywhere...
Another one of our favorites...this one was quite arresting and unique.
Finn runs around at the top of the hill, stretching his legs before the hike down!
On Sunday, we were off to go Pink Dolphin watching near Lantau Island. These rare dolphins are actually white, but appear pink when their blood circulates through their body during exercise...
Their habitat has been diminished by construction of the airport in their area...but Finn did love to get such a close view of the "Avions!" overhead.
Daddy (tall man in silly straw sunhat) and Finn (short man next to tall man) look for Dolphins...
Ahoy! There they are! Our camera isn't exactly National Geographic quality, but in person it was quite cool to see pink dolphins...
They were out in force on this day, we had many cool sightings...
"Dadda! Avion! Jet Puh-lane!"
At the end of the trip, the crew poses for a picture. No Indians were harmed by the Cowboy in the silly hat.
Once the dolphins were gone, Finn gets a little silly with Mommy's glasses!
Momma and son...
It's the end of the weekend, and Daddy and Finn settle in for a good read at home.
From the boat ride home, Finn decides to use his anytime minutes on his plastic phone to call all of his relatives! (Note: Erin was not harmed by the cell-phone left-hook)

We're over halfway through our journey here in Hong Kong!

A quick visit to Mumbai...

Andy had a quick visit to Mumbai, India for work this past week...it was quite a change from Hong Kong! This hotel interior was very cool, and a great spot for dinner on the last night.
Colors abound in the city, but for the most part, 'Slumdog Millionaire' wasn't far from the truth...
Cars, motorcycles and buses are everywhere, and lane markers don't even exist! It's truly organized chaos.
This is Mumbai airport...at 2am. I've never seen so many people! There was a line just to GET IN to the Airport. Crazy...
I was happy to get back home, but I did have some amazing meals while I was there.
And an amazing weekend...stay tuned for pictures later this week.
Love,
Andy

Beijing: Day 2 - Forbidden City, Summer Palace and Lamma Temple

Day Two of our Beijing trip started at Tiananmen Square...it was HUGE - and that was the theme of the weekend. Everything in Beijing is big, big big...
Erin in front of the tomb of Mao Tse Tung...a massive building built in just a few months...
And people were lined up around the block, waiting for hours to walk past his body, lying in state.
And the lines kept going...the heat was unbearable, but it didn't stop the crowds!
Looking back at Mao's Mausoleum...and the giant obselisk with his signature handwriting etched on it.
Across the street from Mao was the front gate of the Forbidden City - here are Curtis, the Bakers and Curtis' friend Michael soaking up the heat...with Mao looking over our shoulder.
A soldier in the Square...
The Forbidden City is HUGE, with numerous gates that you have to pass through...
A little princess looks back at Finn! He's a real head-turner!
Michael and our tour guide Leo outside of the main Forbidden City gate waiting for tickets. In case you were wondering, Leo is not, in fact, Canadian.
Inside the City, there are dozens of giant gates to pass, and one huge courtyard after another.
The crowds were out in force this Saturday in well over 100 degree heat!
Giant bowls were positioned around the city - they were used as water storage in case any of the buildings caught on fire...today, people rub them for good luck.
Giant golden lions guard another gate...
Beautiful stone carvings between stairs - this is the world's largest!
In the heat, Finn and Daddy pause for a few minutes to collect themselves...
And suddenly people wanted to take pictures with us! It was crazy - dozens of people gathered around taking pictures like the Papparazzi!
It went on for quite a while, people were getting in line to take pictures of us!
Near the end of the Forbidden City walk was the garden...Emperors used to play hide and seek there!
A beautiful koi pond...
Finn gets mobbed again by onlookers...
A giant lion guards the back door of the Forbidden City...and about 1 and half hours after entering it, we got to the other side.
Our next stop was the Summer Palace...an amazing man-made lake where the Navy would train, and Empresses would relax by the water.
The world's longest breezeway goes along the water, with elaborate paintings and woodwork decorating it.
At the end of the breezeway was a cool gate overlooking the water.
We headed to lunch in the restaurant district, decorated by good-luck red lanterns.
Next we headed to the Lamma Temple, and Finn strikes a pose with Mom and Curtis...
Finn takes a seat after a long day of walking!
Finn and Mommy near the end of our day of touring, outside one of the beautiful Buddhist temple gates...

"Guys, it's really hot, so let's just set a spell!"
The gang relaxing...
Andy went out for some drinks and Jazz with Curtis and Michael, and we visited one of the local nightspots, situated around a pond in the city...
A classic Chinese scene - playing the strings outside a Tea House.
On our way home at the airport on Sunday morning, with Finn's new buddy Leo!
"Beijing, I won't miss your heat, but it sure was fun exploring! Now, let's get on an avion..."
It was a wonderful weekend in China's capitol city!
Hope you enjoyed the trip, too.
