Beijing Day 1 Part 2: Ming Tombs

After we saw the Great Wall, we headed to the Ming Tombs, a large underground tomb/palace where Emporers were buried...on the way, Finn found a very friendly little girl who couldn't keep her hands off him!
Lots of intricate stone work decorated the grounds...
And Finn's not-so-secret admirer was very persistent!
"Maybe I can get away from that little girl if I ride away on an elephant!"
In the underground palace, people throw money for good luck at the tombs. All of the original tombs were destroyed during the cultural revolution, there were mainly placards noting where they would have been.
Giant marble doors protected the inner walls of the tombs. Finn's curls are going wild in the heat!
The exit led to a large gate with a carved obelisk...
After the Ming Tombs and a long day in the car, we drove past the Olympic Village and the water cube, where the swimming took place...
And the famous bird's nest stadium. We did not see any digitally enhanced fireworks.
So our first day was complete! We hit the pool at the hotel and were off to bed.
Love,
A&E
